The Alfonso family migrated from Cuba in 1980 through Mariel. After first partnering with another Cuban family to run "La Nueva Crema," they set out on their own and opened Capri on February 13, 1986 as the J. Alfonso Corporation.
They brought more than recipes with them. The kitchen methods, the cleanliness and the flavor all came straight from Cuba — and nearly four decades later, Capri is still family-owned and family-run.
